Harbhajan Singh wouldn’t have even thought in his dreams that his simple slap to Sreesanth would make his pocket lose a huge money, How much huge ?? Well it is beyond a normal person’s imagination that is more than 2.5Crores Yes two and a half crores+ Harbhajan was fined 100 per cent of his match fee when he was handed out an eleven match ban for his unprovoked assault on India teammate Sreesanth after their match in Mohali between Bhajji’s Mumbai Indians and Sreesanth’s Kings XI Punjab on April 25th. Harbhajan Singh was bought by the Mumbai Indians franchise team owned by the famous Reliance Industries for a eye tickling $8,50,000 (approximately Rs:3.4Crores).
“There are no separate match fees for IPL matches and the players are given only allowances. The match fee is calculated on a pro-rata basis of the amount he had been bought for by his franchise owner and the number of matches he’s able to play”, a top Cricket Board source informed.
When calculated on above terms the player, termed “Turbanator” by the Aussie press, stood to lose Rs 2.671 crore - or close to Rs 25 lakhs per match for the 11 ties he would miss following the verdict by IPL match referee and former Test stumper, Farokh Engineer. It must rank among the costliest-ever slaps in world history, and certainly a record-setting one in cricket!!!
