Smilie Suri
Smilie Suri, a shy girl from Kalyug is smiling all the way as she is coming back with three films this year.
The new Smilie has overshadowed her shyness and now is much bubbly, lively and sparkling with life. The actor admits that she has matured and her experience with the film industry at large has taught her a lot.
“After Kalyug, it was a slow learning process. I wanted to do something better after my first film. I was getting offers for similar type of roles, but I didn’t want to be typecast. But, I knew it would come,” says Smilie.
Year 2009 holds lot for her in a way. Smilie will next appear in Andalib Majrooh Sultanpuri’s Down Town, N Chandra’s Yeh Mera India and in Kunal Deshmukh’s next.
When asked to her whether she is sharing some project with brother Mohit Suri, she replied, “I could have asked him to help me out, Bit I wanted to work outside my home production.”
Seems like she wants to prove herself on her own, Smilie adds, “It’s not what I wouldn’t like to work with him, but as of now, things are happening the way they should. Mohit is busy working with Emraan Hashmi who’s a cousin of ours. I always pull Emraan’s leg, saying ‘Zara hat abhi mujhe bhi kaam karne do’.”
The actress believes that now a day we don’t really need backing of big banners. She adds, “A good story, screenplay and marketing work more than a big starcast. A film like Bheja Fry did so well. Repeat value only happens when the script is good.”
Talking about her upcoming film Yeh Mera India, Smilie said, “I play Asha Ambedkar, a Dalit, who falls in love with a Brahmin boy. It’s a bold subject and I’m glad I got to be a part of it. In Down Town, I play a small-town girl who is very modern in her approach. She comes to Mumbai to take part in a reality show. It’s a story that unfolds on a single day.”
Smilie explains her journey as “It’s all God sent”.
The actress also admits that immersed in so much work, now she wants some spice in life. Is this something related to her single hood? And she says, “The only man in my life is Mambo, my dog.” Smilie is an animal lover and also involved in animal welfare activities.
