Sarkar Raj movie poster
Due to unsatisfactory script, filmmaker RGV (Ram Gopal Varma) cancelled his plan to do another sequel to the Sarkar series.
Sarkar released in 2005 earned the RGV much critical acclaim. The film which is tribute to Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather series. Later in 2008, the director comes up with its sequel called Sarkar Raj along with the Bachchan family. But this time the response was not same. May be because there were lots of expectations from the Bachchans, but the film didn’t satisfy it. However for the same reason, Ramu wanted to take the series forward.
In the last part of the series Abhishek Bachchan’s character dies, so the whole responsibility to carry forward the film comes to Aishwarya Rai and Amitabh Bachchan’s character. So Ramu felt that he is still the chance to move forward the story. His writers worked on it to take the story they left in with Sarkar Raj.
“However, we couldn’t do justice to it,” said Ramu.
The same thing happened to Sarkar series that happened with The Godfather series. Response of audience went down with the new series of the film.
“If you have seen The Godfather, the first part where Marlon Brando plays the head of the family is easily the most arresting of the three films,” said the film maker.
RGV built good relationship with the Bachchan family during the making of films, but as there will be no sequel to it, the director says, “My relationship with the Bachchan family (no pun intended) is over.”
“I will make something with the three Bachchans at some other stage in life… But as far as a Sarkar 3 is concerned, it is shelved for sure.”
“My relationship with the Bachchan family is very close. I don’t wish to discuss the extent of proximity of our relationship because I have never done that in print. But yes, I can say that at the moment, my screen relationship with the Bachchan family is over,” he adds.
