Mandira Bedi witnessing a bad accident on television channel Colors’ show Khatron Ke Khiladi 2 left in bad state physically, mentally and emotionally. The stunt she did at the press conference of the show in Mumbai broke her ankle. The injury, followed by surgery and a metal plate broke her in tears. Meanwhile what’s more tearful for her is the ignorance from the channel, which she thinks is not so supportive to her.

Even after all the painful journey Mandira made appearance on the finale shoot of the show, where host of the show Akshay Kumar remarked her injury as “zara si moch“. Fed up of the suffering and ignorance, Mandira finally sent a legal notice to Colors for ignoring her and demanding response in seven days. No doubt the channel was in shock to receive such a notice and asked for time. But the angry Mandira says, “Six weeks later, do they still need more time.”

The accident happened when Mandira along with 12 other contestants jumped from a 15-foot height on two thin coir mattresses. It was a barefoot stunt which ultimately broke her ankle. Off course there was a doctor present on the set always accompanying the contestants who advised her to ice her swollen foot. But when Mandira’s husband came on the sets, he advised an X-ray which in turn shown that it was a fracture. Mandira again claims that no body from the unit accompanied her to hospital. “I left alone in my car as there wasn’t an ambulance there. My X-ray confirmed a fracture. I informed the Colors team of it and my inability to return. Then I went to the hospital to put my foot in a cast. The next day, a newspaper reported that ‘Mandira twisted her ankle’. Which is the only official statement from Colors,” said the hurt Mandira.

Followed by it, Mandira made many attempts to talk to the CEO of the channel, but “He deigned to call me back,” she claims. “Of course, it was only because the show was still on air! Subsequently, he apologized for a Colors employee’s feeble attempt at clearing my hospital bills, saying it would be ‘chicken-feed in comparison to all the pain and trauma I have gone through’. He also assured me that he would ‘make it up to me’. That was the last time I heard from him or anyone else from there,” she adds.

Now all she wants is to make the channel accept the responsibly of the mishap. “Accept, on a public forum, that a mistake happened, that there was medical negligence and violation of safety norms. This acknowledgement makes for a larger issue. This callous and inhuman behaviour has to be made an example of,” she fumes.

On the other hand, a spokesperson from Colors said, “We’re surprised on receiving this notice from Mandira and our lawyers are in the process of responding to the notice. The fact is that she voluntarily opted to do the jump and all due care was taken during all the rehearsals of the show, to ensure safety of all participants. For unforeseen incidents, there was an ambulance and a doctor on stand-by, always. It was unfortunate that she hurt herself during one of the rehearsal drills. While adequate first-aid was offered to her on site, we also offered to pick up her medical expenses for this injury. And we are willing to reimburse her medical expenses now as well if we receive the bills from her. After doing all this, her behaviour leaves us amazed.”
