Madhur Bhandarkar

Nominations for the year’s IIFA awards are declared and it seems like director Madhur Bhandarkar is quite displeased with it.

Although Madhur has been nominated in the Best Director category for film Fashion, the film didn’t get place in the Best Picture category. However all other directors who nominated for Best Director, their films as well nominated for Best Picture category. So there is a buzz that Madhur is not pleased with the jury decision as he recently quoted, “They’ve done this to me before.”

When asked to the director whether he is miffed with the jury, he replied, “Miffed nahi re baba, par lagta hai na why. I’m forced to think about it when people say, ‘Arre, Madhur got three National Awards, but why has he been deprived of popular awards?’ I’m neither hurt nor amused. I’ve been going to the IIFA since I made Chandni Bar and I accept the jury’s decision. But I don’t know what their parameters are.”

On the other hand Madhur also thinks that as he is nominated for Best Director his film is by default a part of Best Film category. There are also many reasons for Madhur to be content with his work as all his protagonists were always recognized with various awards including National Award.

“From Chandni Bar to Fashion, all my protagonists have been recognised. Tabu has won at the IIFA and Bipasha Basu also bagged an award at the Global Indian Film Awards (GIFA) for Corporate. When they win, it’s like the film won,” said Madhur.

The director whose films were always been a combination of realism and fiction is next coming up with a film called Jail. Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh is playing the lead role in the film. The film will be well promoted at the IIFA awards. And now what Madhur wants more than anything else is “My films get National Awards. I just hope that like my other protagonists, Neil also gets the National Award for Jail. The rest will be a bonus,” hopes the director.
