Vaada Raha... I Promise movie still
Director Samir Karnik completed his trilogy with Vaada Raha… I Promise. Previously he had given us Nanhe Jaisalmer and Heroes. Having Bobby Deol and child artist Dwij Yadav common in all those three film, what’s more common is the emotional quotient of the film.
It is focused on bond between two patients and what called as hope. The best part of the film includes Bobby Deol’s performance, who gets paralyzed neck down in an accident. Before accident Duke’s (Bobby Deol) life is simply perfect. He is a successful doctor and lover of Nalini (Kangna Ranaut) to whom he is planning to marry soon. But one accident changes his life. The accident makes him paralyzed neck down and so Nalini leaves him. The experience makes Duke an angry person who wishes to die instead of suffering such pain in life. Then steps in the small angel Roshan (Dwij Yadav), another patient in the hospital who helps to bring back the hope in Duke’s life.
But some of the weird and unbelievable scenes of the film includes kid Roshan’s talks like of some old aged person who has seen the whole world. Also, when Bobby recovers, he marries to Kangna, which is unbelievable. Because in that case he should simply dump her when she was not standing by him during the crisis. Even though the director is known for making emotional films, what takes down Vaada Raha… is bad writing. Because of bad script the film doesn’t stands up to the hype. Bobby is excellent, his best performance ever. But Kangna’s potential remains untouched in the film.

Movie poster of Sikandar
‘Sikandar’ is another film on a controversial Kashmir issue. Earlier many Indian film makers have addressed the issues related to common man of J&K. To name a few, movies like Fiza, Mission Kashir and Tahaan have carried the same stories depicting how the situation has forced youngster to select the wrong or criminal path. Santosh Sivan recently presented a film named ‘Tahaan’ which had the theme as Sikandar, but what Sikandar has different than these films is that its sharpness and intensity. Director Piyush Jha has taken a innocent approach to tell a story. A 14-year-old boy, Sikandar Raza, is the central character of the film.
The film is dealing with various issues concerning to Kashmir, for e.g. militants, the army, religious leaders, politicians and also innocent citizens. ‘Sikandar’ perceives the nuances of Kashmir problem like terrorism, guns, war, Jihad, and violence through the innocent eyes of school going teenagers Sikandar (Parzan Dastur) and Nasreen (Ayesha Kapoor). The film shows how Parzan, the protagonist in the film wanted to become a football champion always and how his life changes when one day he holds gun in his hand to solve his problems on his own like school bully. The film also shows a quiet Nasreen plays a role of conscience keeper in his life. Sikandar doesn’t want to take support of girls to deal with school bully. Also he doesn’t understand how girls can’t accept fight is necessary to achieve peace.
What more we can expect from the film is the great performances by Madhavan, Sanjay Suri and Arunoday Singh. Madhavan who played Lt Colonel Rao seems like he is in the state of dilemma in the film. At one point he uses force to bring peace, while on the other hand follows doctrine practices religiously. Mukhtaar Mattoo played by Sanjay Suri is the changed for good militant plays a peacemaker between the religious heads, militants and army. And finally the debutant actor Arunoday Singh playing a must feared militant Zahgeer Quadir, a leader of the Kashmir Azaadi Force and accused for 72 killings and 22 bombings. Arunoday has given a convincing performance, being complimented with a gum man body.
Sinkandar is a refreshing take on the Kashmir issue. The scenic beauty, the stunning visuals of Kashmir will keep you engaged in the film to watch more. The shattering teenage life too is captured beautifully in the film. Less words and strong expressions from the hearty officer like Madhavan is the strength of the film. The second half of the film is fast paced and sums up with a strong message. Also watch it to see how the tussi-ja-rahe-ho charmer Parzan Dastur and Ayesha Kapoor from ‘Black’ have grown up to handle the dark characters.

Movie poster of Shadow
Salute to the guts and willpower of Nasser Khan, who plays the protagonist Arjun Sherawat in the film. The man who is blind in real life plays the hero in reels of Shadow. Except those jump offs from multi-storeyed building, hazardous death-defying stunts and dancing skills of Naseer noting is good in the film. The storyline and writing have the weakened the film.
The movie is about cracking a serial murder case. No one knows anything about that unseen criminal, Arjun Sherawat (Nasser Khan). The police department hands over his case to police officer Sanjana (Sonali Kulkarni), who has been trying too hard to catch the criminal but all her efforts wastes.
Hrishitaa Bhatt plays Sheetal, a press reporter, who lives her profession by heart. Working for a new channel, she follows the case closely. Another reporter from another news channel Rahul (Milind Soman) is also looking for the same case, who teases the officer Sanjana time to time with his questions. Sanjana is helpless to solve the case, as all her efforts go in vain. However murders kept on rising. One day Sheetal gives crucial information to police about Arjun’s next target, but unfortunately he meets an unexpected accident in the way and declared as dead. Everyone seems happy with the death of him, until his audio clip comes up challenging the cops that he will kidnap a famous builder Habeeb Faizal (Mushtaq Khan) in front of them on a particular date. Despite security, Arjun succeeds in kidnapping the builder.
The script holds your attention in the initial parts, but later it seems confused and crazy. The film seems like made to showcase Nasser’s acting abilities. Sonali Kulkarni looks little overweight, but otherwise ok. Item song done by her in the film is an unnecessary effort. The romantic link between her and Nasser is another weak point of the film. Milind Soman is good, but Hrishitaa Bhatt and Samir Aftab had less scope in the film.
Unfortunately, Shadow doesn’t have anything new to experience. It’s like something we have already seen in our 70’s and 80’s masala movies. Only a die-hard movie lover would love to catch the film. Definitely the movie is not for multiplexes, but for single screens.
