Ever thought we can see Deepika Padukone in a saree? Well, your this dream will be coming in reality soon or you may say it has already! The gorgeous Deepika wore bikinis and rode water scooter in Houseful her last film. But she has shifted her gears and she is going in opposite direction. This stunningly beautiful actress is all set to play a Bengali freedom fighter in her upcoming film. “Deepika turns to saree” is what making news now days. Now you get ready to see her in Bengal cotton saree riding bicycle!
Deepika has turned around her image as a sexy and bold actress for director Ashutosh Gowarikar’s new project Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se which is based on life of a Bengali freedom fighter Kalpana Dutta who was from Chittagong. Deepika will be seen in an era of around 1930’s. Deepika is very much excited for performing this role as she says, “Kalpana Dutta was among the first women freedom fighters of India. She was strong, feisty and a total revolutionary patriot”. Also “Saree makes a lady look more sexy” are the words of Deepika in a latest interview! We think this is the reason why Deepika turns to saree. Well it looks like she is already enjoying this bicycle ride!
The film is jointly produced by Sunita A Gowariker along with Ajay and Sanjeev Bijli. The film will be based on “DO and Die” the book written by Manini Chatterji, Kalpana Dutta’s daughter in law. This would be an epic freedom fighting period thriller. The film will be presented by PVR and AGPPL pictures. Acting opposite Deepika will be Chote B Abhishek Bachchan.
Director Ashutosh Gowarikar said that the reason behind casting Deepika is that she will bring much energy to the character of Kalpana Dutta. The music composer of the movie is Sohail Sen and the beautiful lyrics of the legendary lyricists of Javed Akhtar will add up to the beauty of the movie. Leading fashion designer Neeta Lulla has designed the costumes.
The film is being shot in Goa as well as Mumbai. Also the temporary release date of movie has been also scheduled as December 3. So guys if you see Deepika pedaling cycle in Mumbai when dressed up in Bengali cotton saree don’t get surprised!
One might have seen the promising chemistry between them when Abhishek Bachchan handed over the Filmfare’s Best Sensational Female Debut to Asin early this year. The instant might also have inspired director Ashutosh Gowariker to cast them together for his next venture Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se. The film is inspired from Chittagong Uprising and is set to shot in Goa. It has got 60 days schedule in Goa. Shooting for it will start from November 3.
However Abhishek might fly back and forth to Mumbai on weekends to be with wife Aishwarya and to promote his upcoming Paa. We also heard that Jr. Bachchan misses his parents too when he is away for long time. Spending time with his loving parents keeps the actor in good mood.
What’s Your Raashee? starring Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja releasing today in India, but the film already has received great applause at just finished Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film premiered at the closing day (19 September) of the festival was a sold-out show. Despite the strong breeze and seasonal chill, over 2000 people attended the premier at the famous Roy Thomson hall.
Actors Priyanka Chopra, Harman Baweja, director Ashutosh Gowarikar and producers Ronnie Screwvala and Sunita A Gowaarikar were present at the event. The audience entering to the hall was lot excited; however while returning also they had the same excitement. Now they were waiting to catch it again in theatres.
Actor Shah Rukh Khan refused to do Ashutosh Gowarikar’s next film which is a period drama. Ashutosh selected Rani Mukherji in female lead, while wanted to cast Shah Rukh opposite her, but the actor don’t want to take any chances with the director after their failed attempt Swades. Sawdes was not the big film in Shah Rukhâ€™s career, sohe don’t want to feel the same experience again.
But the director is so keen to work with Shah Rukh that he is ready to give incentives to the actor to get agree for the project. One source revealed, “Ashutosh even told Shah Rukh that they could co-produce the film and he had no issues with Shah Rukh’s style of working on commission basis. But even this did not evoke a favorable response.”
Shah Rukh was unavailable for any comment, while Gowariker preferred not to comment.
But one good thing happened in all this that Rani has come out of the Yash Raj closet. Her latest three films which were with Yash Raj Banner i.e. Laaga Chunri Mein Daag, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic all bombed at the box-office.
After directing the historical characters in Jodha-Akbar, director Ashutosh Gowarikar is set to direct an ancient character of Lord Buddha. The film is also supposed to be a big budget film costing about Rs. 200 crore. Industrialist BK Modi will produce the film.
It’s an English film and will be named as Buddha. Modi was previously planning to make the film with Shekhar Kapur and Deepak Chopra. But it didn’t work because of the differences in opinions of the trio. However, it seems like Modi don’t want to give up with the project and so approached Gowarikar. Interestingly Gowarikar has earlier portrayed the character for TV serial Discovery of India directed by Shyam Benegal.
There is also a buzz that Benegal also wants to make a film based on Lord Buddha life with Hrithik Roshan in Lead. On the other hand, Gowarikar has not yet finalized the actor who will depict the character. Oscar winner writer David Ward has written script for the film. Gowarikar is about to complete his What’s Your Rashee? and will soon finalize the actors, location and technicians for Buddha. The film will go on floor in May next year and will be shot in the foothills of Himalayas.
Harman Baweja’s Victory is ready to hit the theaters, but the actor seems victorious before its release as director Ashutosh Gowarikar has all praises for him. Ashutosh says that Harman is a hardworking and dedicated actor.
Harman is playing a role in Gowarikar’s What’s Your Raashee? And as the film shoot has come to end, the director is very happy with the results and is already planning for first look of the film.
“It will be in the form of a book cover,” revealed one source.
